Totes Emosh (Live in C.O.T V2)

from The Misinformation Age by Richard Brown

about

A badly named original song from 2014. It's about not settling for less, thinking about the bigger picture and not becoming part of the problem. This is a random live version performed after one too many 'jazz cigarettes' in the new recording space. It just came out. Decided it had to be included for the common theme.

lyrics

Totes emosh

We're born into a system of restraint
that will beat you down and beat you into shape
the cogs will grind and bend you off your course
tired of singing` to the dark until you're hoarse

your principles they taught you as you grew
treated like illusion when you're through
Settle down and settle for much less
not all of us can keep this on our chest

and the world wants me to settle for less
and I don't know if I can
a million sleeping people said
thats just the way things are

we're told about our limits from our birth
to make you understand your little worth
the gods and institutions of the past
with open minds how could they ever last

the sea will come and wash away the sand
and people will awake and use their hands
to build a life worth living for today
the waves will crash and carry them away

I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IN THE FALSITY OF FEELINGS
THAT RUN THROUGH ME LIKE A HARMONY OF SOUND
THE WORLD CAN CHANGE AND IT STARTS WITH ME
AND THEY WON'T EVER SETTLE DOWN
